At least he had on clean underware?

Ring-a-ling-a-ling....

Hello?

Hi, May I speak with Heidi Lukenja?

Only if you can pronounce her name correctly....

Oh, well, this is Howie's mom.

Interesting, I have a son named Howie, too.

Oh - Okay, then, I'm his teacher.

Right. How can I help you?

Well, Howie says his shoes hurt his feet, so he won't wear them.

Oh? Hmm?

I guess it wouldn't normally be a problem, we don't have PE today or anything, so he's just walking around in his socks.

Oh? Okay?

Except his socks have holes in them, and they're pretty bad.

OH! Uh - I'm so sorry! I normally throw socks out if I see a hole in them!? I'm so embarrassed! I'll bring him some shoes & socks then!

Great!

By the way....what shoes is he wearing?

He's got some tan boots.

Hmmm, interesting, I guarantee those fit him?! But okay - I'll bring him another set!

So I went into Howie's room and found his tan boots - one upside down in the doorway - the other in his closet. I grabbed them both - and opened up his amply full of socks drawer and picked a freshly mated pair.

I ran over to the school & brought the boots & socks.

Turns out - Howie put his tan boots on from when he was 4 - they're size 11...he's in size 1 currently - so yep, that explains why they hurt his feet - he loves his "work" boots so we just get the same kind every year...just a new size up!

I called Howie over from the "circle" of reading w/ his class - to see him walking up to me in THIS!!!

So I get his teachers attention - which - a visit like this demands! I must justify WHY he's wearing these socks - and the best explanation I could come up with was "I've thrown these out at least 8 times!" He's a garbage digger - and he'll wear these socks 3 months in a row - as is evident in exhibit A!

(sidenote - what kind of gnarly toenails must one posess to do THAT to the toe of your socks? ALL 5 TOES are showing!!)

Then I showed her the boots I brought, how they were exactly like the boots he wore in - just about 2 inches longer - and still couldn't come up with a reason why he has 3 year old shoes in his closet! I'm still at a loss with that one!

Either way - I put the socks in the outside garbage - never to be heard from - again! I'll keep the picture to show to him when his son embarrasses his wife...who hasn't done laundry in 4 weeks because the laundry room is UPSTAIRS and she's too puky to go up!

And for my "proud mommy of the day" story - he WAS wearing clean underwear. I know this because I just bought him a 4 pack on Friday - and there's only one left in the bag, which means, he's been wearing a new superhero a day...Guess we need to get some new superman socks?

Agh! I started cracking up when I saw those socks, hard enough that my 3-yr-old started laughing with me, even though she had no idea what was going on.

The joys of being a boy mom!!

Hey! Those are the socks my brother wore back in the '70s! He'll be glad to know they went to a good home! :) LOL
Funny story Heidi! But that's not Howie who wears size 11 shoes, it's Ross. You seem to have your children mixed up! :) (poke)

Oh my gosh! I would have been so embarrassed...LOL
It does give me a good laugh when things like this happen though, as long as it happens to someone besides me ;)
