or pinkeye. Take your pick - when your sweet little baby comes to you in the morning with both eyes swollen shut and crusty green/yellow snot oozing from whatever part of the eye is still OPEN...and says "Mommy, my eyes are broke," your heart sort of goes out to her.
So, at this point, with a two year old, not understanding why her eyes are swollen and gooked shut - there are two solutions...take a warm wet washcloth and try to soften the gook out of her eye - or - hold her head under the bathtub - okay - NOT that, but you might as well as much screaming and gnashing of teeth happens from a warm wet washcloth rubbing against crusty snotted eye gook...that stuff can CUT, ya know?!
Thankfully - the doctor doesn't need to see the eye to know it's pink - so they called in a prescription.
What I don't fully understand is she's on antibiotics for an ear infection - so how could she get an eye infection while ON antibiotics? I'll never get it! Nonetheless...with pinkeye comes a lot of sanitation, washing hands, pillow cases, sheets - bedding - hands, face, siblings hands...just everything clean.
I asked the doctor if I could give her an oral anti-biotic for this eye thing - apparently no, but I did get some good tips on how to correctly administer eye drops to a two year old. Here are the instructions the doctor gave me.
1) Lay child's head, face up, in your crotch.
2) Place your thighs over child's arms to keep them from disrupting your aim.
3) Cross your lower legs over top of child's legs to keep them from kicking and moving.
4) Tighten your thighs to hold child's head from turning away from the drops.
5) With your forefinger and thumb, pry child's squinted eye open.
6) With your other hand, administer one to two drops into affected eye.
7) When CPS comes to your door to take your child away because 8 neighbors called on a screaming baby alarm, give them THIS doctor's note.
Wouldn't it be easier just to add "put a sock in child's mouth" to avoid the whole CPS scandal?
I tell you - eye drops are heart breaking!
Can't the conjuctivitis just work itself out - or would that blind the child?
OH - and for the record - my BIL is an optometrist and said that you can use a NEW tube (or clean tube) of POLYSPORIN (not neosporin) to put in the eye...if for some reason your doctor feels like they need proof of the green gook and swollen look...even though the tube says not for use in eyes, it's apparently safe...so while the drops are only $3, and the tube of polysporin is closer to $10, it should only take one overnight treatment of polysporin to rid the child of conjuctivitis. I don't know how long the drops would take - it says to use 4 times a day for 5 days - which is - 20 child torture sessions...hmmmm, you weigh the dangers!

DEFCON 2
Need I say more? The children have been put on alert from their father - that there is eminent danger - perhaps even wartime worthy - MOM IS BECOMING A THREAT. It's not really "her" fault. She's seriously hormonally challenged right now - AND the lack of comfort keeps her awake at nights...being awake at nights keeps her nasty little mood at the forefront of her mind!
She could say that she wants to get a new doctor because he says she's only at dilated to a 1, and that requesting a bottle of sleeping pills and a catheter from said doctor was not welcomed with an exchange of prescription papers...but rather a laughing retort "That's the first threat a mom who wants to be induced starts with"
He told me to lay off the alcohol - to which my husband says it's not necessary because I have enough whine seeping from my person any extra glasses would clash with my already volatile personality!
ERUPTIVE!

Ever had a blender throw up on you?
Well, most of us have seen those parts in the movies - you know it's coming - the stupid blender operator preoccupied by something else - neglects to put the lid on - you see this happening WELL before it actually does - and for whatever reason, you're always shocked that a little blender could make such a huge mess - and you NEVER see how they clean it up - it just is magically clean the next time they go to use the blender...
Well, I have been wanting shaved ice - the only way I know how to accomplish this is to chop it up w/ my super-duper charged Bosch blender. (I made a pina colada last night and OHHH was that GOOD) but I don't have any more pina colada mix, so I opted for lemon-water. Either way - I get my crushed ice.
Which I made with the lid on and everything -- but just as I was finishing I thought it looked a little too liquidy for me - and added another 3 cubes - and yep, did it while the jig was running and without a lid - and now I'm all sticky lemony and have wet chunks of straight hair (yep, I was all dudded up to go to the doctor today in hopes I am dilated to at least a 9 - SOOOO tired of being pregnant!)
Anyway - I just don't have it in me to clean up the blender "puke" and am thinking - just like in the movies - if I go to the doctors and leave it a mess - I will come back to a magically clean kitchen. Here's hoping.

Musical Mayhem...
I would like to think that I'm musically inclined. I mean - I have an ear for things - I know if they sound good or not - I can tell if someone on AI is out of tune - and I'm usually sporting the same opinion as Simon...I don't have the best voice, and I don't hit all the notes right when I'm on the piano, but my kids think I'm the bomb! (which is "good" in kid talk)
So - I don't know why I haven't done anything about this - but we have 4 portable phones. One is upstairs - and 3 stay downstairs...the kids were playing with the phones and programed all new ring tones on them - so when the house line rings - we have 4 different songs playing throughout the house - at the same time - out of harmony with each other - and it drives me bonkers.
But it's been this way for - oh - 3 months now...and I haven't bothered to change them back to a simple ring - or at least matching ring tones...so as I'm getting calls during the day - and people ask me, (upon hearing my distressed voice) "Are you okay?" "I'm fine - I just have 4 songs stuck in my head playing at the same time, what's wrong with YOU?"

Congratulations ROSSI!!!
WOW! I'm so impressed! A few weeks ago, Rossi won 1st place in his school for the National Geographic Geography Bee! Last night was the DISTRICT competition. So the 15 schools in our district had their 1st place winners from each grade 4-8 show up to this competition!
The fun part of the competition for Rossi was that his best church friend, Ammon (from our ward) also made 1st place for his school! So the boys were competing against each other! (They are standing up in the back row, Ross is standing at the far left, Ammon is just to the right of him!)

Anywhoozle - they go through 7 "quick" rounds to determine the top 10 of the gang - There was a tie for 11th place, Ammon had a tie breaker & won that! He ended up getting 3rd place for the district while Ross was in the final 10, and had to stay later to determine placing!
SOOOO - long story short...the guy to the right of him in THIS picture won 1st place - and he was actually one of Ross' friends from his old school from last year! Rossi won 2nd - while his friend from Church took 3rd! It was such a "friendly" competition - they were high fiving each other all through the questioning - cheering each other on! I love those kinds of competitions!

We took Rossi out for ice cream afterwords - he was a little down that he "only" got 2nd place! DORK! I don't think he realized it was for all the schools in our area until after the ice cream froze his brain!
OH - and he "lost" on the simplest of questions - yes, he got the sasquacheaon (sp?) rim question right?! But he thought the Everglades were in California...I thought the Everglades were in Iceland - like polar ice caps? GLADES - like cold? So yah - he didn't get his geography know-how from his MOTHER!

She's so cool!
See what my friend made just for me?! Okay - so she did a ton of them for whoever wants them! Click on Want a new template for your blog? and it will take you to her site where she has instructions for the severely technically impairred person --- see I even did it! And there's some cute templates to chose from - I'm currently lobbying her for a PMS template...she'll need to use imagination to satisfy ME! LOL!
Meanwhile I took Brynn on an outing today! We went to the library - every Tuesday they have book time and singing time or something there - just a chance for her to be around a bunch of other kids who need to sit on their parents laps & ignore the lady singing & reading them stories.
Afterwords my friend called, who usually goes to library time w/ her little girls - and told me she was home w/ sick kids - so I went by her house to pick up her little girls so they could get out of the cootie house & get some sun & fresh air - we went to the park!
On my way back dropping them off - I got a bunch of free citrus! See, it's citrus season here & my friend lives in a neighborhood where a bunch of old people have a bunch of citrus trees and can't bare to see the fruit go to waste, so they load up their wheelbarrows with various fruits & wheel them to the street w/ signs "free" so we came back w/ a grocery bag or four & filled up on them! YAH! I was paid in grapefruits! I can't tell you how I've been craving those lately, too! Can't wait to see the havoc all this citrus wreaks on my tongue!

it's been...one week...since I looked at you!
We took almost the whole week off the house project - well, yeah - I'd say it was the entire week. We've had a "title fight" with the flu! The upper respiratory type flu, thankfully nothing GI!
We're mostly better now - residual cough and blowing noses, but nothing we can't handle!
Saturday we went back to the house, we replaced the grass up in the front yard (we had a little "grass path" that they ripped up & tore the sprinklers out) with little rocks...contrasting in color to the other rocks. A quick fix, doesn't look as nice as the grass did, but much easier maintenance.
We also painted - the "great room" entry and most of the hall - it's a tan color - it's helping with the smell in there. Here's a cell phone picture - we had to do a few coats - for one, the kids helped
(you can see the one area the manner in which they painted) they enjoyed it - and then we sent them out to play in the pool...while we did the "second coat" a little more evenly! (see to the left!)
So we have the bedrooms to paint - we are going to spend an hour a night the next few nights getting those bedrooms painted and then starting today - hopefully, we'll put an add in the paper and get that house rented out before too long!
Meanwhile because of the sickies this last week - housework has fallen to the wayside! Laundry, dishes, mopping, oh my! It sure makes it easier to mop when I'm pregnant and readily enjoy the smell of cleaning supplies!
High ho - High ho! It's off to work I go!

As Timone (or was it Pumba?) said
"We need to put our past in our behind."
So the house is coming along slowly but surely. The pool finally finished filling this morning - turned on the pump, put in the salt & other chemicals to get the "start up" of the pool back in motion.
Taped the walls - patched a few holes (still have TONS to patch - and even tape).
The back yard is almost to par - I have to trim the rose bushes before they decide to start their new growth this season - so if I need a break from taping off the walls, I can go outside & trim some bushes! So the back yard is 90% done - (well, trimmed & cleaned - we still need stuff to turn green again - but that should come soon)
I feel like the house has forgiven me for getting such terrible renters - I've cleaned her up - given her some extra TLC, bubble bath & carpet cleaning (yah - have to post "after" pictures - maybe tomorrow/Monday?) scrubbed the pool, filled the pool, fixed the cartridges/pump! Discovered my vacuum for the pool needs to be replaced - at this point, it's almost comical all the little things that decide to pop up needing replaced!
Anyway - I realized as I was listening to the radio - I heard Phil Collins? I think "I don't care any more" yah - that pretty much sums up the feelings. I'm bugged that people can act like that, live like that and treat other peoples things like that, but since nothing can be done, it's really a matter of just pushing forward chalking it up to experience. Yes, I'll still be leery of who I'm renting out to again - hopefully try and screen them a bit better...but for the most part - I'm over it & moving on...Rascal Flats - "I'm moving on"
Picture updates later - the carpet looks better - honestly - if I had to live there, I'd replace it still, but we decided to give the new renters an incentive & offer them new carpet after a year of rent...hopefully that will interest them!

Coming right along!
Wednesday at noon, I rented a pool pump - to empty the pool - I apologize, no before pictures, trust me, it was devistating! The pool guy that came by to bring me the pump and give me an estimate on cleaning & repair really loved the pool - and was sad that it was mistreated! He estimated - with the draining, the cleaning and the start-up for it to cost $875. But because we've done a lot of business with them, he'd bring it down to $750. Generous, right?
I decided to earn that $750 myself!! I started to drain the pool right when I got the pump. I brushed the walls of the pool down while it was wet (yah - right, that helped?!! NOT!)
Meanwhile I had my wonderful cleaning lady come & assess the damage on the inside - She showed up at 8 that morning - and didn't leave until 6 that night.
She wiped down the floorboards the walls (just for grease & stuff - since the house smells like a burrito - we're actually going to have to repaint everything - too much pencil, marker & fingernail polish on the walls - oh - yah - nails and stickers, too!) she cleaned the ceiling fans & lights, bathrooms, ignored the carpet (really - can't do anything w/ that!!) she cleaned the kitchen - cabinets inside & out - countertops - sink, all the "normal" stuff - and when she came to her last thing before she exits the house - THE TILE - she mopped it - emptied her bucket, cleaned off the mop, mopped it again, emptied the bucket, cleaned off the mop - she did this 4 times - then - since it was still quite apparently NOT getting cleaner - she opted to empty buckets of water - (or hosed down the tile) and started scrubbing it and soaking it with the push broom...after she did that, she swept the water outside & got to her hands & knees & scrubbed tile by tile - with a scrubby sponge until she was done. It looks TONS better, however, it's been a lot cleaner, too!
Somehow the house still smells like - uh - tortillas?
So yesterday - morning I showed up at the house at 8 - the pool water was almost completely drained so I started in the shallow end w/ the "gentle" attachment for the power sprayer (not to knock out any pebbles from the pebble-tec) and hosed it all down - top to bottom & walls/floors...I finally got to the last - oh - 100 or so gallons of water that the pump couldn't drain & grabbed a bucket - of course that water was FULL of - lets call it "mexican toilet water" - there was a LOT of smelly mud, algae and maggots - WHY maggots? I'm guessing they bathed in the pool? But there were TONS of them!
At one point my friend, Holly showed up & dragged Brynn kicking and screaming to the park (Okay I made up the kicking and screaming part - she was actually kicking and screaming cause she didn't want to be at that house another day with NOTHING to do, watch or play with!) And - for the record, it's a LOT harder to get out of the pool when there's no water in it!!
Anyway - I looked at the time, it was noon - I had to get the pump back - packed it up - and instead of having to "heft" that huge lug UP the break from the deep end & around the pool, I thought it would be easier to lift it to the bottom step in the deep end (about 6 feet up from where I was standing) so I put it up there, and somehow I didn't balance it correctly and it came crashing down - toilet water and all - spraying it ALL OVER ME! What a fun adventure!
I picked up Brynn & returned the pump, but I still had some toilet water on the bottom of the pool. There were still some parts in the pool that needed to be scrubbed down w/ pumice stone & I had to get the shop vac & suck up the left over muddy/bloated maggot ridden water, empty the water & suck up more - at this point, I slowed down considerably at this point in the game - motion was just not an option! So - I did the next best thing & checked Rossi out of school - HE LOVES PLAYING WITH THE SHOP VAC - not so much mexican toilet water, but the shop vac is so much FUN!!
10 trips w/ the 10 gallon shop vac later, we finally had it all cleaned out! And ready to re-fill!

We started the refill process at about 2:30? and it's been going since then - I should go look to see how close to the top it is - but I'm not anxious to get back to the house immediately this morning since motion is still a comodity I am not yet able to afford. Sucks that sciatic pain is something you can't avoid when pregnant! It requires a miniscule amount of stomach muscles to support that back - and well, quite frankly - the muslces are there, but they're not available currently!
So - here I sit with a hot pad on my back ordering Brynn to load the dishwasher. She's enjoying licking my elbow instead. She thinks she's a cat.
Anyway - here are a few pictures - I only had my cell phone with me, so they're not "top notch" quality - but if you could have seen the before, to watch how it "sparkles" now - is really a treat! I do enjoy looking at the clean pool remembering my efforts that I put in - sort of taking pride in my work...
