A guy from our ward came by tonight...while I was home...and dropped off a sign on my front porch then called me to tell me he put a proposition sign there and if we wanted, we could put it in our yard. Uh. okay. Coulda knocked & told me w/out calling? Weird. But okay? Whatever floats your boat.
Then Ross went out immediately and hammered it up in the front lawn. He is excited to say how proud he is to have this sign up front. Fine. Whatever floats his boat.
But then I got to thinking...what kind of person actually pays heed to that kind of political advertisement.
I mean - This proposition is pretty popular. Kind of like the presidential options. Everyone knows and has pretty much already made a decision on who they will be voting for. So my question is...ya think my sign's gonna sway the vote?
Really?
Like this....I saw a 1977 Chevy Nova - it was beat UP, the paint clearly got frightened away along with the hubcaps and rear view mirrors and ONE of the windows ran away with a lug nut...but it had nice spinners on the tires...and it had an "Obama" bumper sticker duct taped on it. So here's what I'm thinking. "Dang, nice spinners, I think I'll vote for Obama." But then, I saw the same sticker on a Hummer. And thought again to myself - "People who drive hummers are dumb" so clearly I cannot vote for Obama. I'm so torn, what ever will I do?
Know why? Know why? Cause campaign bumper stickers and poster signs are STUPID. Why even waste campaign money on that sort of nonsense? The poster in my front yard is NOT going to convince anyone to vote my way...what it WILL do - is make some fella driving down the main road or freeway - that can see my house from there - get REALLY passive-aggressive toward me and throw lime green pompoms on my roof - just out of my reach. And there they will sit long after my campaign poster has been taken down.
I guess to the ill-informed, if they see more "yes" proposition signs than "no" signs, they'll vote yes? I know there's a psychological name for that sort of nonsense...I just can't remember it.
I think putting posters up in my neighborhood is against my HOA rules anyway. Guess we'll find out when we're fined?

maybe if you stood by the sign, showing a little leg that would sway the voters.
You should go to Jackson. First of all, every other car is a Subaru, and 90% of them are plastered with bumper stickers, mostly for Obama. So of coarse, that's a turn off, cuz if people in jackson like him, that's a bad sign. Then we started seeing McCain bumper stickers, too, and thought, gosh, if people in Jackson like him, that's a bad sign.
Well.........
I look at yard signs. I know, I'm a moron. But if someone I know puts out a sign, I pay attention and make note of it. No, it's not going to sway my vote if I've already decided, but it has actually influenced me in local elections.
Lemming! I'm a lemming! hork hork (what sound to lemmings make? I don't even know, although I guess I should, since I am one. Maybe I'm a deaf lemming).
I kinda agree.. I've gotten the "vote yes on prop 102" about a dozen times. And you know what I do? I delete them! I already know I'm going to vote yes on Prop 202, you don't need to convince me. And I'd bet that everyone that got that email is already a supporter. I'd never send that kind of email to someone I knew WOULDN'T support the Prop, so why send it out at all? I thought about putting in my blog, but then I decided I didn't want to become a role model or rep or whatever. I know what I'm gonna vote. I'm 90% sure that 90% of my acquaintances are gonna vote the same way. Done and done.
But good for Ross anyway. =)
