I often wonder about people who brag about how great their kids are. I think, for the most part, my kids are pretty great...Like, as I haven't been feeling well, Kiersten has stepped up and made dinner the last 3 nights (and tonight she's making chicken croissants).
I think good moms make lazy kids. They do everything...clean their kids rooms, fold their kids laundry, do their kids homework - and their kids never have to do any cleaning because the mom does it all, in fact, the kids, for the most part, don't even learn how to read because mom reads them books every night before bed...why learn to read when you have a mom who will do it for ya?
I should take a certain amount of pride & brag to my friends about it, but then it occurs to me, what other 11 year old makes dinner for a family of 7 (really 8 since Pete's in town again) every night when she comes home from school?
And why does my friend stare in shock as Kiersten stands over a pan of hot oil frying chicken cutlets? I don't know? She's quite capable, she's been doing it since she was 8 or 9? I know, I know, call CPS, there is a foster family out there that needs someone to cook for them!!!
So I won't brag about how "great" my kids are, but dis on myself - because it takes a truly lazy mom to create such work horses. Am I happy? Maybe, but when they have kids of their own, their kids are gonna be lay-hay-hay-zee!

Seriously... I KNOW my kids are so lazy (dh and I were talking about this today) because I never make them do anything themselves. It's kind of a control thing with me, though. I'm learning... slowly... will you hold my hand and guide me... when you're not puking, that is?
Ah, how sweet of Kiersten. You will have to take her out for some pickles and icecream :)
